On Saturday May 28th, the 59th All Japan Aikido Demonstration returned to the legendary Nippon Budokan after a three-year hiatus due to the renovations undertaken ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the restrictions imposed in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. 

Can you believe that last Friday was our last Elementary School Aikido Club session of the year? To celebrate, we held the awarding ceremony for their very first Aikido promotion to eleventh kyu.

Even though Aikido has no matches or competitions, there are plenty of opportunities for aikidoka to challenge themselves, meet other practitioners, and experience different approaches to the art. A major source of such challenge and discovery usually comes under the form of seminars, which are technical masterclasses placed under the direction of one or several teachers. Those can last from half-a-day up to an entire week in the case of resident training.

After a very successful and enjoyable first year of existence practicing Aikido at YC&AC, our dojo has had to change its training location due to scheduling conflicts.

The Kagamibiraki is the first official event of the year on the Aikikai schedule, and in addition to being a traditional way to celebrate the new year, it also marks the publishing and awarding of the new dan grade promotions.

We hope that everyone is getting excited about the coming Winter Season. We certainly are! We will be going on break at both YC&AC and Saint Maur International School so make sure to note the following dates in your calendar.

Yokohama AikiDojo head instructor Guillaume Erard will be teaching a seminar on December 26, 2021 (13:00 - 16:30) at the Tokyo Budokan.

Yokohama Country & Athletic Club held its yearly open day on Saturday 30th of October. It is an opportunity for the entire Yamate community to get together and enjoy Halloween-themed attractions, games, live music, and a number of exhibitions offered by its resident clubs.

Since its inception, Yokohama AikiDojo has been committed to serving its close community in the Yamate and Honmoku area by spreading the positive teachings of Aikido.

In spite of the pandemic which greatly undermined the scale of any public event, the hosting by Tokyo of the 2020 Olympic Games saw the organization of a relatively large number of non-competitive events as part of its official program. One of those events was the “武道祭2020 – UNIVERSAL BUDO FESTIVAL in YOKOHAMA” and as its name suggests, it focused specifically on promoting and disseminating Japanese martial arts.

Although our dojo has quite recently been established, it has been getting some welcome attention, which in turns has helped us recruit new members at a steady pace. This month, we are very proud to let you know that our head instructor, Guillaume Erard Sensei is featuring in a brand-new interview published by Hiden Monthly (月間秘伝), the most popular martial arts magazine in Japan.
